Problem:
You CAN receive HR email, but CANNOT send
email through your HR account.
Cause:
We have only discovered one known problem that prohibits
our Autoconfig feature from working flawlessly. Many ISP's (Internet
Service Providers) are blocking what is called "Port 25" which
is the port used to send e-mail. They have chosen to do this to cut
down on the amount of "SPAM" mail that is sent. Blocking port
25 prohibits the user from sending emails though any SMTP other than
the ISP's. All e-mail sent via the Internet is routed through
the port 25, the channel used for communication between a mail client
and a mail server. Even though port 25 blocking will probably become
an industry standard, however, the filter can create problems for e-mail
servers and block legitimate e-mail as well as spam. You can check with
your dial-up provider to see if they are doing this.
Here are a few of the major ISP's that block Port 25:
• NetZero
• Mindspring
• MSN
• Earthlink
• Flashnet
• MediaOne
• AT&T
• Verizon
• Bell Sympatico
• Familink
Solution:
One way around this is to set your SMTP settings to those
of your ISP's. They can provide the settings for you to send email via
their SMTP server. For example: "mail.bellsouth.net". After
doing that, you will be sending mail though your ISP's outgoing servers
rather than the Holy Rollerz outgoing mail server.
How?
- Open Outlook Express
- Click on Tools, Accounts, and select your email account in the
list.
- Click Properties and select the Servers tab
- Under the Server Information section, type your ISP's SMTP info
in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) box.
- At the bottom, place a check in the box for "My Server
requires Authentication".
- Click the Settings button.
- Choose "Log on Using..."
- Type in your Accout name and password that your ISP gave you
- Select Remember Password and click OK on all the windows.
