Testimony

My process involved divorced parents at the age of 9, not much of a father around my whole life, being shy and backwards in school and lots of weed after high school. Up until high school, I had no identity really. Then I started hanging out with some friends that drank and smoked weed. I started to do the same things and became "Mo Mello". It was who I was, or at least who I thought I was. I'm a huge hip hop head and was influenced greatly by the music I listened to like Cypress Hill, Ice Cube, De La, and Common to name a few. I believed in God, but didn't believe that the Bible could be true and didn't know Jesus had died for everything I had done and was still doing. I deserved to be in jail or dead. God's grace kept me through it all. I remember at one point, thinking it was a self revelation, that I gotta stop smoking and drinking. I was like a walking zombie, dead and desensitized to everything around me. About 2 months after that moment, I met a Christian girl that had a 5 year old son. We got married in 2000 and God blessed me with a 7 year old son at the same time. I started going to church with her and started to realize that I was not who the enemy had been telling me I was. I was a child of God, not Mo Mello. In 2002 I got baptized, but still didn't know if I was changed. I didn't feel different, but ,I had not fully accepted Christ with my whole heart. I got out of church again for a little because of work and was still living in sin because of internet lust issues. I had stopped listening to the music I used to, but I think what I was doing was worse than the music. I knew it was wrong. It ended up nearly ruining my marriage down the road. My wife wanted to start going to another church and sought my approval first like the virtuous woman she is. I went with her and immediately felt like God was speaking to me through the sermons. I felt like I was getting closer to God. I didn't know if I had received the Holy Spirit up to that point, so I pretty much got fire baptized on 5/5/05. I had never ever felt anything as powerful and fulfilling as the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that night. No drug could compare. I had no desire to ever get high or even drink again. I still struggled with some lust issues, but trusted in the Lord to get me through. I have committed myself to following Jesus ever since then being discipled by some good brothers. No lust issues that I've given into for about 3 years now. I've grown so much and the Lord has brought me so far from being Mo Mellow. In fact, that man died in 2005 for good. A new creation was born...my name is Brian aka Water Walkin' Warrior. I love God, my wife, my son, the body of Christ, hip hop that glorifies God, basketball, and the Cadillac He's blessed me with. I now serve as the head usher with a deacon spirit at our church. I thank God for his saving grace and try to give Him glory with everything I do now. He is worthy and I am dirt.
