I was hooked on fast cars the day my neighbor bought a '62 409 chevy impala and took me for a ride. When he stomped the gas, the air went down the twin 4bbls carbs and out of my lungs. I was pinned to the seat and wide eyed. I went down and purchased a subscription to Hot Rod Magazine and began to read everything I could on high performance engines and cars. My first project car was 1936 Plymouth Coupe that I installed a small block Chevy engine, T-10 4 speed w/ 4.88 posi-track. Weighing only 2100 # it was a screamer. I sold it to buy a brand new COPO 1969 Camaro 427/425 HP, 4 speed Muncie, with 4.10 posi-track which I street raced constantly. It later was modified with all L-88 equipment and was easily a 600HP ride. My life was empty in spite of cars, sports and then Viet Nam loomed large and I wasn't ready to die. I married my college sweetheart, which helped the lonliness that I felt deep inside me and still yet could not find a solution. I joined an Army Reserve Unit in my home town of Huntington, WV where Christians witnessed to me about my need for Jesus. At a summer training camp, they told me about the Second Coming of Christ. It hit me like a bombshell ! Jesus is coming back ? Then He really is alive ! For the first time in my life, hope began to dawn in the black hole of my own soul. Two weeks later I accepted Jesus in my heart when a youth pastor of a Bible church witnessed to me of his love, his sacrifice at Calvary and his power to save me now. I was alone in a truck and said yes to Jesus, please save me now. He did just that ! My life went from black and white to living color instantly. I began to tell others about Jesus. I poured out all my beer and liquor and drew close to my wife. Soon, God showed me His plan for my life, calling me to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ. I sold my Camaro (my sons sigh here, as do I), my home, and left for Bible Seminary in Chattanooga, TN. I graduated and have since pastored three churces. While in Tampa, Fl I purchased my first import in 1996 and began to move into the tuner scene. Now in WV, I have a full-on 10 second potential NHRA HOT ROD CLASS IMPORT UNIBODY RACER. It is almost finished. We have held two IMPORT TUNER RALLYS at our current church and enthusiasm is growing wildly here. I love preaching, soul winning and witnessing to all the young guys with the import tuners. We have fun and I try to get them to race safely at the track. I'd give anything if some of the really fine cars at the ATLANTA area would be willing to come to our next car show on June 8. We could have a great time and could probably help with hospitality some. Grace to you all. Your are a great generation, I have learned much from you and your skill at import racing. I have found a way to run the race of faith with Jesus and my Nissan ! God uses it mightily to open doors to witness for HIM. I praise God for this through Our Lord Jesus Christ.
